How does your time at SPU connect to what you’re doing today?

My time spent in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences interior design major not only helped prepare me from a technical standpoint for my career but I have also made lasting relationships with the FCS staff that have been so instrumental in giving me the courage I needed to start my own business.

Which SPU faculty or staff member made a difference in your education?

I have kept in very close contact with Beth and Keith Miller, two of my design professors. Keith owns his own interior design business as well and has been in the industry for 20+ years. He has been an invaluable resource to me over the years as I navigate being a small business owner and designer. We feel blessed that the relationship has grown beyond just professional and we now count Beth and Keith as dear friends.

What advice would you give to current SPU students?

Figure out what you love to do and then pursue it. Have persistence and patience as you go after your “dream” job and if you find it doesn’t exist, have the courage to create it.
