Class of 2012, Art History and Global Developmental Studies Majors

As a UX/UI Designer at BlueFletch Mobile, Gatlin is continuing to grow both her visual design skills and her understanding of how to build beautiful and intuitive designs for her users. With a background in art history and global developmental studies at SPU, Gatlin launched her Atlanta-based design studio, Gatlin Paper Company, in 2013. There she specialized in creating distinctive brand identities and custom wedding stationary, and now works at a mobile app development company in Atlanta.

How does your time at SPU connect to what you’re doing today?

SPU gave me a chance to begin the process of articulating what makes me come alive. Through my majors in global developmental studies and art history, I gained a holistic education, which asked big questions about our world and what continues to shape it.

Which SPU faculty or staff member made a difference in your education?

Dr. Kathleen Braden showed me that learning doesn’t have to end when you graduate. She pushed me to think about the big picture and our interconnectivity as citizens of the globe. Dr. Katie Kresser challenged the way that I see art — helping me to understand that my initial perceptions sometimes just scratch the surface and that there is always a new way of looking at something.

What advice would you give to current SPU students?

Make space in your life to seek the Lord, know that he will provide and rest in that truth.
